On the outside of the wall facing Warwick Lane will be seen a finely carved terracotta frieze by the Sheffield sculptor Benjamin Creswick (1853-1946). The frieze shows cutlers working at their craft. Creswick was a pupil of John Ruskin and had worked as a grinder in Sheffield.

St Paul’s Cathedral – 300th Anniversary

2011 marked the suggested 300th anniversary of St Paul’s Cathedral, although it has been said that the actual anniversary could have been much earlier in 2010.  The date of completion relates to Christmas Day 1711, when Wren was paid the final part of his salary.

Archaeological history of Twickenham

Following on from my recent post: 10 reasons to visit Twickenham, here is a brief history of the area.
