cycling in London

London is one of the most amazing cities in the world and you would like to see as much as possible in the time you are here.  One of the more fun ways to get around is cycling and there are a number of options available to you.

However, London is also one of the busiest cities in the world and accidents do happen, and unfortunately the cyclists usually come off worst in these situations.  As with any road use in a busy city it pays to follow the rules and not pretend that you are invincible!

It is going to get somewhat crazy on the roads during the Olympics during the following weeks and this is a perfect time for all of us to take care and be safe.

Here is a link that I would suggest you read and note for when you are using the roads as a cyclist.  It really is up to you make sure you are safe and even though you may well follow the rules, unfortunately sometimes other road users take no heed of cyclists.  However, there are some very practical and useful hints on this link http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/14799.aspx? and I would suggest you read it and do your best to remain safe on the roads and ensure that you take heed of other road users.

I cannot tell you the number of times I have started to cross on the green man at a pedestrian crossing only to have a cyclist come whizzing up and nearly knock me over!  Red traffic lights are there for cyclists as well as other road users.  I realise pedestrians are just as much to blame for walking against the red, however, if we each play our part in being considerate towards other road users I am sure we would have less accidents and we can all get about safely.
